CHRISTMAS AT INFANT JESUS SHRINE
The preparations for the grand celebration of the birth of our Lord
reached their pinnacle on December 24 with the Solemn Eucharistic
Celebration in Kannada, commencing at 10:30 p.m. This sacred event was
preceded by the blessing of the crib and an uplifting session of carol
singing at 10:00 p.m. The main celebrant and preacher for the evening
was Fr. Anthony Stephen, accompanied by six concelebrants. In his
homily, Fr. Stephen emphasized the profound invitation of the Christ
Child to embrace compassion, asserting that Christmas embodies themes of
compassion, kindness, and mercy. It is only through these virtues that
Christ can truly be born in our hearts.
A particularly moving moment occurred during the Gloria, when the Christ
Child was gently lowered from above into the hands of Fr. Stephen, who
then placed Him in the manger. This act served as a beautiful reminder
of the divine mystery of God descending from heavenly glory to dwell
among humanity.
On Christmas Day, the holy mass was celebrated in English at 8:00 a.m.
by Fr. Don Tony D'Souza, and six concelebrants. In his homily, Fr. Tony
encouraged a personal reflection on what Christmas signifies for each
individual, contrasting it with its meaning for those who are sick,
suffering, or lonely. He urged the congregation to allow Christmas to be
a celebration of hope, inspiring each person to become a beacon of hope
for the world. May the joy of the commemoration of this great mystery of
our faith reign in our hearts, making us tabernacles of the Saviour of
the world.
